Born of a female horse; the horsemen

Named after the Ashwini Kumaras — the divine twin horsemen and physicians of the gods. They restored youth to the sage Chyavana and are invoked for healing and swift action. Children of the Sun god Surya and his wife Sanjña in horse form.

Beginning and initiation. The first Nakshatra represents the spark of creation, new beginnings, and swift transformation. It governs healing, speed, and the power of rejuvenation.
