The Gayatri Mantra is the most sacred mantra in Hinduism, from the Rig Veda (3.62.10). It was revealed to sage Vishwamitra. Traditionally chanted at the three sandhyas (sunrise, noon, sunset), it is the mantra given during Upanayana (sacred thread ceremony). It is addressed to Savitri (the creative power of the Sun God) and is considered the essence of all the Vedas. Chanting 108 times daily is the standard practice. It enhances intellect, removes sins, and leads to spiritual illumination. It is suitable for all regardless of caste, gender, or background.
