કેવી રીતે પાળવું
તલ (તિલ) ના છ (ષટ) ઉપયોગો વ્રતને વ્યાખ્યાયિત કરે છે: (૧) તલ મિશ્રિત પાણીથી સ્નાન કરવું, (૨) તલના તેલથી શરીરનું અભ્યંગ કરવું, (૩) હવન/હોમમાં તલ અર્પણ કરવા, (૪) તલ સાથે તર્પણ (પૂર્વજો માટે પાણી) અર્પણ કરવું, (૫) પારણા સમયે થોડા તલ (અલ્પ માત્રામાં) ગ્રહણ કરવા, (૬) બ્રાહ્મણો અને ગરીબોને તલનું દાન કરવું. અન્યથા એકાદશીનો ઉપવાસ પાળો. આ એકમાત્ર એકાદશી છે જ્યાં તલ ખાસ કરીને નિર્ધારિત છે.
