Durga Chalisa is recited during both Chaitra and Sharad Navratri (nine nights in spring and autumn), on Tuesdays and Fridays, and on Ashtami (8th day). It narrates the victories of Goddess Durga over various demons. Regular recitation is believed to protect from enemies, remove fear, and bring courage and prosperity. It is especially powerful during the Durga Puja festival celebrated across Bengal and Eastern India.
