An in-depth study of every major Jyotish dosha — formation conditions, step-by-step detection, severity levels, cancellation rules, effects, remedies, and classical references. Each dosha includes worked examples and detection flowcharts.
"Dosha" literally means "fault" or "imperfection" — it is not a curse. It is a point of planetary tension in a chart that can create challenges in specific life areas. Most people have at least one dosha in their chart — this is normal, not exceptional.
Critically: online dosha calculators often report doshas without checking cancellation conditions, causing unnecessary alarm. A proper assessment requires examining the full chart — signs, aspects, conjunctions, Shadbala, and divisional charts (especially Navamsa). Never panic based on a single dosha result.

Harsh speech, family discord, financial aggression
Domestic strife, property disputes, mother's health
Spouse conflict, domineering dynamics, marriage disruption
Sudden events, spouse health, accidents, inheritance fights
Bedroom disharmony, excessive expenditure, foreign lands
Mars placed in houses 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, or 12 from Lagna (ascendant), Moon, or Venus. The dosha is checked from all three reference points independently. If Mars triggers the dosha from all three, it is considered most severe (triple Manglik). From Lagna alone is the mildest form.
Mars in 7th or 8th house from all three references (Lagna, Moon, Venus). No cancellation conditions apply. Most severe — marriage delay is significant.
Mars triggers from 1-2 references only, or is in milder houses (2nd, 12th). Some cancellation conditions partially reduce severity.
One or more cancellation conditions fully neutralize the dosha. Marriage can proceed normally.
No single dosha defines your life. Vedic astrology is a complex system where hundreds of factors operate simultaneously. A dosha that appears severe based on one placement can be completely neutralized by another planet's aspect or a counteracting yoga.
Dasha periods (planetary cycles) are equally important — a dosha is typically activated only during the dasha of the involved planet. The rest of the time, it lies dormant. Always consult a qualified astrologer for full chart analysis before making major life decisions based on dosha findings.
