It is considered inauspicious for commencing new material ventures. A significant observance is Pitru Tarpan, where water and sesame seeds are offered to ancestors for their peace and liberation.

Dana includes offering food (especially Kheer, Puri), clothing, sesame seeds, or black lentils to Brahmins, the poor, or in a temple for ancestral blessings.

This day is auspicious for emotional matters, travel, artistic endeavors, and activities related to water or agriculture. It is generally favorable for starting new businesses or seeking comfort. Many devotees observe a fast on Mondays, particularly unmarried girls for a good husband (Solah Somvar Vrat), and worship Lord Shiva, often chanting "Om Namah Shivaya" for peace and prosperity.
