This year Kamada Ekadashi falls on a Saturday, 19 days later than 2026 (2026-03-29) — typical lunar-calendar drift.
Falling on a Saturday brings a Shani emphasis — ancestral rites and black-sesame offerings carry extra weight, mitigating Shani's shadow.
The 2026 observance fell on Sunday, 2026-03-29 — this year arrives 19 days later in the Gregorian calendar, the Adhika-masa pattern when an intercalary lunar month pushes the cycle forward.
Looking ahead to 2028, Kamada Ekadashi will fall on Wednesday, 2028-04-05 (11 days earlier than this year). So planning ritual schedules across years means anchoring to the tithi rather than the Gregorian date.

For Kamada Ekadashi 2027, the central rite of udaya tithi (sunrise) depends on the festival tithi being present during that window on 2027-04-17 — confirmed across 6 reference cities in this year's computation pass. In the city of Bhogavati, the Gandharva Lalit and his beloved wife Lalita lived. While performing a court dance for King Pundarika, Lalit became distracted thinking of Lalita and his rhythm faltered. The enraged king cursed him into a hideous demon form. The grieving Lalita, advised by Sage Shringi, observed Chaitra Shukla Ekadashi with full devotion. The merit transferred to Lalit and lifted the curse — they reunited in their original Gandharva forms. The Padma Purana preserves this.
How to Observe
Observe Ekadashi fast, especially in spousal observance — both husband and wife together. Worship Vishnu with the lotus (Lalita's symbol). Recite the Lalita Sahasranama or the Vishnu Sahasranama. The vrata is especially powerful for couples seeking deeper bond, healing of relationship rifts, or removing impediments caused by past mistakes in love. Donate to couples or new marriages.
Significance
Kamada = "desire-granting" — fulfils legitimate desires (kama in the dharmic sense, not lust). The first Ekadashi of the new Hindu year (Chaitra is the first month), often observed by those starting fresh or beginning new chapters of life. The spousal-bond emphasis makes it the unofficial Vaishnava "couples' ekadashi" — comparable to but distinct from the women's vrata of Karva Chauth or Hartalika Teej.
Fasting
Ekadashi fast – no grains or beans. Traditional couple-observance form is most powerful. Break fast on Dwadashi morning.
