Krishna Amavasya, the new moon day, is presided over by the Pitrus, the revered ancestors, symbolizing liberation and remembrance. This tithi is supremely auspicious for performing ancestral rites, offering prayers, and engaging in charity to honor departed souls. It is considered inauspicious for commencing new material ventures. A significant observance is Pitru Tarpan, where water and sesame seeds are offered to ancestors for their peace and liberation.

Offering food and water to crows, cows, and Brahmins is highly meritorious. Observing a fast for ancestral peace is common. The mantra 'Om Pitru Devaya Namaha' or 'Om Sarva Pitru Devatabhyo Namah' should be chanted. Dana includes offering food (especially Kheer, Puri), clothing, sesame seeds, or black lentils to Brahmins, the poor, or in a temple for ancestral blessings.

Thursday is ruled by Brihaspati (Jupiter), representing wisdom, knowledge, and prosperity. Its character is benevolent, expansive, and spiritual, influencing education and good fortune. This day is considered highly auspicious for spiritual practices, educational pursuits, marriage ceremonies, and seeking blessings from gurus or elders. It is generally favorable for starting long-term projects and financial investments. Many devotees observe a fast, worship Lord Vishnu or Sai Baba, and perform bhajans, seeking wisdom, wealth, and marital happiness. Offering yellow items is also a common practice.
