गुरुचाण्डालयोगः
Formation Rule
Jupiter conjunct Rahu in the birth chart
Example Chart Position
Aries Lagna example — actual positions will vary
Guru Chandal Yoga forms when Jupiter (the divine teacher, guru of the devas) is conjunct Rahu (the outcaste, the shadow). The name literally means "Teacher-Outcaste" — a combination that challenges traditional wisdom and conventional belief systems.
This yoga often produces individuals who reject organised religion but independently discover deep spiritual truths. They may have troubled relationships with mentors, teachers, or father figures. Rahu amplifies Jupiter's expansive energy but corrupts its purity, leading to unconventional philosophies, ethical grey areas, or hypocrisy in religious matters.
In Sagittarius or Pisces (Jupiter's signs), the yoga is somewhat mitigated. In Cancer (Jupiter exalted), Rahu's shadow on Jupiter is reduced. The yoga is strongest (most challenging) in Capricorn (Jupiter debilitated) where both wisdom and ethics are under pressure.
Despite its negative reputation, many brilliant innovators, scientists, and reformers have Guru Chandal — the "pollution" of tradition by Rahu often produces breakthrough thinking that challenges outdated norms.
