ಹೋಳಿಕಾ ದಹನವು ರಾಕ್ಷಸಿ ಹೋಳಿಕಾಳ ದಹನವನ್ನು ಸ್ಮರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಿರಣ್ಯಕಶಿಪುವಿನ ಸಹೋದರಿ ಹೋಳಿಕಾಳಿಗೆ ಬೆಂಕಿಯಿಂದ ರಕ್ಷಿಸುವ ದೈವಿಕ ವರವಿತ್ತು. ವಿಷ್ಣುವಿನ ಮೇಲಿನ ಭಕ್ತಿಗಾಗಿ ಅವನನ್ನು ಕೊಲ್ಲಲು ಅವಳು ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಪ್ರಹ್ಲಾದನನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ಮಡಿಲಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು ಚಿಕ್ಕಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಕುಳಿತಳು. ಆದರೆ ವರವು ಒಬ್ಬಂಟಿಯಾಗಿ ಕುಳಿತವರನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ರಕ್ಷಿಸಿತು – ಹೋಳಿಕಾ ಜ್ವಾಲೆಗಳಿಂದ ಸುಟ್ಟುಹೋದಳು ಆದರೆ ಪ್ರಹ್ಲಾದನು ತನ್ನ ಅಚಲ ಭಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟನು, ಹಾನಿಯಾಗದೆ ಹೊರಬಂದನು.
