નિશિતા કાળ (મધ્યરાત્રિ) નિયમ: જ્યારે ચતુર્દશી તિથિ મધ્યરાત્રિએ પ્રવર્તે છે ત્યારે આ વ્રત પાળવામાં આવે છે – દિવાળીની આગલી રાત. પ્રભાત પહેલાનું અભ્યંગ સ્નાન (તેલ સ્નાન) નવા વર્ષ માટે શુદ્ધિ કરે છે. તેને છોટી દિવાળી પણ કહેવાય છે.

મહત્વ
નરક ચતુર્દશી અનિષ્ટના વિનાશ અને પીડિતોની મુક્તિનું પ્રતીક છે. પ્રભાત પહેલાનું સ્નાન પાપોને ધોઈ નાખે છે, અને ચૌદ દીવા પ્રગટાવવા એ ચૌદ લોકને પ્રકાશિત કરવાનું પ્રતિનિધિત્વ કરે છે. તે પાંચ દિવસીય દિવાળી ઉત્સવનો બીજો દિવસ છે અને મુખ્ય દિવાળી રાત્રિ પહેલા શુદ્ધિકરણનો દિવસ માનવામાં આવે છે.
