गणेश चतुर्थी भाद्रपद शुक्ल चतुर्थी कें शिव-पार्वती कें ज्येष्ठ पुत्र गणपति कें जन्म कें पर्व अछि।
पार्वती कैलास पर एकाकिनी छलथि — शिव दीर्घ तपस्या मे छलाह। हुनका अइसन रक्षक चाहल जे पूर्णतः हुनकहि होय। हुनकर अपन शरीर पर लागल हरिद्रा-चन्दन सँ एक सुन्दर बालक कें मूर्ति गढ़ि कय अपन श्वास सँ ओहि मे प्राण फुकलनि। बालक हुनकहि छल। हुनका स्नान-कक्ष कें द्वार पर बैसा कय कहलखिन्ह — किनको प्रवेश नहि देबय।
शिव लौटि कय अज्ञात बालक कें द्वार पर देखलनि। हटय कें कहलखिन्ह; बालक मनाही कयलक। गण हारि गेलाह, ब्रह्मा-विष्णु-इन्द्र सेहो। अन्त मे शिव स्वयं त्रिशूल सँ सन्ध्या समय बालक कें शिर काटि देलखिन्ह।
पार्वती बाहर एलि, पुत्र कें मरल देखि कय सृष्टि सँ कृपा खींचि लेलनि। देवता प्रार्थना कयलनि। शिव कें आदेश सँ उत्तरमुख गज कें शिर अनलक, बालक कें धड़ पर स्थापित कयल गेल, बालक उठल, शिव हुनका गणपति आ विघ्नहर्ता घोषित कयलनि।
दस-दिवसीय उत्सव कें लोकमान्य तिलक 1893 मे सार्वजनिक रूप देलखिन्ह। माटि कें मूर्ति, मोदक, दूर्वा, आ अन्त मे जल मे विसर्जन — सब कथा कें अनुसरण।
